Hello ...

I would like to take this time to tell you how much I have enjoyed reading the website.  I still have a lot of reading to do on it yet but wanted to take this time to respond to you.

I had been directed to your site by a very good friend of mine who thinks the same way as the views you had presented.  He has been trying to open my mind to think "out of the box". Your site has proved to me that this way of thinking is not so uncommon as I thought it to be. I had been following the guidelines of society and parents for ages, taking what information was given to me as the only way it could be.  I have always thought in different ways and even voiced my thoughts only ending up in being looked at as weird and irresponsible.  I had shut off my creative thinking and sank to the low levels of the "society".

Your site will help me reopen my mind to the level of thinking that it once was and I thank you for this.

Again, I will continue to enjoy your site as it will provide me with many hours of reading.

Subject:  Experiences with Christians

Glad I discovered your site -- have it marked and return frequently as does a friend to whom I recommended it.  Just had to share two recent experiences with "Christians."

In May, I had new floors installed in two rooms of my house.  While we had everything moved out, we decided to repaint, too.  My ex-husband was repainting while to floor man worked and the floor man began to do the "Do you believe in Jesus" number on my ex didn't stop until my ex, as he phrased it, "started for him with the paintbrush."  Even then, he still left religious tracts in the bathroom.

My ex and I also jointly own a rent house in another community.  We evicted the renters for numerous violations of the lease as well as being behind three months on rent and many complaints from neighbors.  They were to be out by July 1 and everything they wanted was to be gone, too. When we got there to clean on July 5, we found the back door destroyed, nail holes and oil stains on the wall, holes knocked in the  walls, the bathroom sink torn off the wall, and unbelievable amounts of trash.  The house reeked of marijuana.  We found papers from all kinds of drug rehab centers and prison records on three of the sons.  We sacked up enough trash to fill the yard.  After working for hours, the three of us -- my daughter was also helping clean -- we went to her  house to eat and shower.  After that we decided to go back to the house and found one of the family's daughters and her boyfriend back in the house.  They had broken in the back door and were getting a cabinet.  My ex informed them they were trespassing and asked them to leave.  They argued a little, threatened us with "six relatives in the sheriff's department" and finally got mad and left.  As they drove away, they yelled "Do you go to church?  We do.  You need to talk to God."

This is an attitude I find frequent among certain Christians -- that "I have been 'saved' and therefore, I can do anything I please."

...It's a great and wonderful passion that you have.  Keep it going.  I believe that life could be viewed as a myth.  It's nice to see that you've discovered corroboration for one powerful aspect of it.  It's something that I would never have enough interest in even attempt.  I like what you have and are doing because you are using the tools that have created the "myth," which might be termed the "belief," as the means to refute it.  I very much appreciate your efforts.  You can take great personal joy in knowing that what you're doing is of great value to everyone....

Soooo, a long message to say you are a beautiful person, and I'm not speaking visually, and I just wanted to send you some encouragement ...

Dear Acharya,

I wanted to thank you for putting up your web page.  I thought I would never find another person that had the integrity to stand up to this childish society and say wake up, kiddies.  I also appreciate the way you don't ever apologize for knowing the truth and stating event though it probably terrifies those people who have nothing to hold but their delusions.  Every day I feel like it's a battle for humanity I fight alone.  Trying to impart understanding, and show them how having GOD is killing us literally everyday.  I read a little more everyday trying to ration out your essays till they are all read.  Have you published anything?  If not, I would hope that you do.  Again thank you for being real.

Acharya -

I visited your site today - wow!  Lots and lots of information packed into many pages!  I'm quite impressed with how much you've accomplished on the site.  Though I'm a hard Atheist, I don't find your pages offensive at all.  We all have our beliefs, and many people piss on our arms at time and call it rain.  Though I do not subscribe to some of the things you do, your site nevertheless is chock full o' information.  I have therefore added a link to your page from mine.  I shall visit yours quite often and perhaps may cite some of your ideas (with your permission, of course).  Good work on the page.  Glad to see it around!

I was feeling a bit "down in the dumps" these days about the general state of humankind (exacerbated by the fact that I haven't been able to find any smoke for the last 8 months), and ran across your page.  Finally, some excellent statements of universal truths, that didn't come from a channeled extraterrestrial. Your "family values" essay really clicked with what I've been feeling about this great "holy war" by the right to spread exclusionism. Will continue reading your essays...

Just out of curiosity, not that I really expect an answer, but I was wondering if your name was Indian in origin.  The sort of thing a white guy who plays sitar might want to know, I guess. Anyway, keep up the good work - the world needs more people like you.

Wow ...

I am really impressed with your website ...It's one of the few that is rich with wisdom. I don't know if you have any idea of how many chat sessions, on and off-line, I have had with so many on the idea of  "God" and how many individuals have no idea or concept of what "God" is?  They are the unfortunate victims, usually of "Christian by default" as I like to put it or else they are reciting things like, "There are no coincidences..." a favorite from the Celestine prophecy readers....  It's going to take me some time to go through your web page in its entirety but I am going to make the attempt....

I enjoyed your comments and historical information that are displayed in your web pages. You are full of insight and, evidently, are on a quest for truth.  It is good to see someone who realizes the significance of erroneous religions that dominate many cultures today.  I am happy that you have your eyes open and see how history correlates with the way religions manifest.  I appreciate and thank you for your giving of knowledge, and of your bravery.  There are, in fact, many contemptuous hypocrites out there who would put you down.  Thank you again.

I read your piece entitled "The Origins of Christianity and the Quest for the Historical Jesus Christ" with great interest, and have to say it blew me away.  I've long held that the Christian religion (not unlike other religions of the world), is filled with bogus claims and tenants, but you cited a vast amount of information I've never heard before....

Thanks for a job well done and keep up the good work.

Dear Mr. Acharya:

I immensely enjoyed your information-laden piece on the mythic origins of J. C.  Earlier, I had gotten interested in the subject after having read G. A. Wells' article on the historicity of J. C. in The Encyclopedia of Unbelief.

I do have a question for you, if you have the time to respond.  Why do you think so many biblical scholars (Renan, Craveri, Pagels, etc.), while rejecting, of course, J. C.'s putative divinity, have nevertheless thought and do think that J. C. was a real person?

In a letter I have sent to a local newspaper, I refer readers to your Internet article.

School of Literature and Language

These scholars are products of their times and occupations.  It has been extremely dangerous to dissent fully, and Renan was fiercely attacked for his critique.  Also, not a few writers have been under blood oaths because of their brotherhood affiliations.
