I wish to learn as much about religion as you do, and I hope someday I will. In the mean time I will continue to enjoy reading your lovely website. Keep up the good work.
PS: I've ordered your book on Christianity in our school library. I'll get back to you once I finish reading it.
Thanks for the comments. Nice to hear from a fellow traveler. You're right, Scientology is a bit too wacky to take seriously. Although it's a very litigious bunch. L. Ron Hubbard was doubtlessly an intelligence agent. He proudly bragged about being US Navy Intelligence. He also bragged about how he create a "religion" that would be a money-machine. Scientology was apparently taken over by World Jewish Congress's Edward Bronfman. The "auditors" gather their information (intelligence) on the clients, to be used against them if necessary. There are rumors that a number of celebs have been caught with their pants down...

I cruised over your website, most kickass; you seem to be sifting through the bullshit very well, kudos. May illusion never blind you, or me, or may we see thru the illusions already blinding us, katzzz, whatever.
Um, have you heard anything about this dude Swami Kaleshwar (www.kaleshwar.org), if you have an opinion on him I would like to know how you formed it. Anyway he is supposed to be making siddhas, with usually catches, you've got to win his heart and have a strong work ethic, yada yada yada, etc ... takes five years, and a few lifetimes ... Fucking A+ I wanna be a siddha.
I am being careful using Zen as grounding, so if you know anything, I want to hear (read) it.
Have done plenty of reference work (like this email) he is just beginning and know one has peeled off of his organization with wild tales of sexual, mental abuse and demon worship like with SYDA.
Peace and thank you
PS I have Barbara Keesling's book, how to make love all night, and I'm doing the exercises. Again you seem to have sifted through the bullshit around sex and Tantra, have you encountered that exercise program before? Is a good place to begin?
This guy sounds like a typical guru. After finding out the scoop about Sai Baba and others, I have very skeptical about claims to "siddhis" or yogic magic. Let me give you an example of how typical this guy is:
"When we asked why he was revealing these teachings now, Swami Kaleshwar explained that the times ahead will be a unique challenge. We are entering into a new time, a time where love, forgiveness, and compassion will predominate. Humanity as a whole is on the verge of a spiritual awakening, we are going to make a leap out of the darkness of the current age. There will be a great desire in people's heart to experience God, to understand the truth, and to know the purpose of life. There will be a tremendous desire for initiation. The times require that many to be empowered to transmit spiritual energy to make this possible."
This is classic guru-babble, designed to pull on the heartstrings of the young, naive and needy. Those who "sign up" with the guru will feel very special indeed to belong to such an important movement. This same stuff's been said by countless gurus over millennia. Another gimmick is the word "secret," as in "secret teachings." Ooh, thinks the follower, I can be part of an important secret.

Regarding the Muslim proselytizing above…tell him to go visit Saudi Arabia, the birthplace of Mohammed, to see what a great country it is. My god stupidity has no limits.
Listen, I have always said when it comes to stupidity no country has a monopoly - every country and every nation has their own.
I really appreciate and value your friendship…!!! Take care, my friend

First off - Wow, and second - thanx :) I've read your book 'The Christ Conspiracy' and much of the content of your website - and I'm happy to say that it's helped me out a lot. Because once upon a time I was very absorbed in Sitchin's writing, hell, I still am - but now I can see where he's twisting things towards a very clear 'agenda' as you once so simply put :) I still personally believe that many of the Sumerian gods may have been extraterrestrials, but at least now ~ I question myself as often as possible, and even more so what the books I am reading are implying; because more than often, just reading something twice can make me realize how flat out stupid those things are. My subtle belief in the extraterrestrial 'gods' I admit though, may just have its roots imbedded in my love for science fiction, because I am only 17, and the idea of alien gods is just a bit funner for me than the idea that we were all slicing animals throats for the sake of the sun, moon, and stars. ya know? :) but the way I see it is, at least now, I refuse to take someone else's word for it - and I look into it myself. Because there is no one that I can really rely on in this world besides myself, which is common sense, because for all I know - I could be right, and me looking into your ideas could be leading me off course, but odds are - that is not the case, and looking into your work will provide me with nothing but insight - whether your work be right or wrong.
Just out of curiosity, what do you think of the archaeological 'evidence' that is put forth by the Ancient Astronaut theory? Such as the huge scar of charred rocks spread over the center of the Sinai peninsula where the so-called 'spaceport' once existed, the green glass of Egypt, the radiation of the dead sea, and the random depictions created by multiple ancient civilizations that appear to show rockets, missiles, satellites, etc.? - Which all somehow connect themselves to these ancient 'gods'...? I'd be really interesting in hearing your opinions on such things, because all I've got at the moment are mine and Sitchin's, which doesn't do too much for me :) I'm just on a search for the truth, and whether it leads me deeper into ancient astronauts or the stars doesn't matter, I just want something that I can depend on... and the closest I've gotten to that so far is the AA theory, but It in itself has so many flaws, just as they all do....

Subject: jesus conspiracy
I've been reading the material on your truthbeknown site, and am impressed. Have not yet read The Christ Conspiracy, but am interested in doing so. The exerpts I've seen indicate a good read. You have an intruiging perspective, most of which I concur with. But I've done some research on the subject as well, and would like to make one dissenting comment regarding your evaluation of Jesus.
The historical Jesus, aware of this perpetual renderings of mythical imagery, adopted the role of the Messiah in accordance with these myths; attempting to give credence to his Messiahship by basing his apellation in the approximations of these myths. It was his hope and intent that general knowledge of these myths among various communities would make his message more amenable through fulfillment of prophecy, and bring peace to his community. Numerous independent biblical scholars have reached identical conclusions based on meticulous analysis of hystorical documents. Ample evidence for this is presented in Douglas Lockhart's Jesus The Heretic, and is also suggested in Laurence Gardner's Bloodline of the Holy Grail. Let us also realize that the existance of such very similar mythic constructs in communities separated by geography and time indicates a valid premise from which these myths originate. The proliferation of this ideal image obviously depicts a fundamental element of humanity, not to be casually dismissed as mere coincidence. Gnostic Christians, fond of didactic allegory, would naturally embrace that premise among their ideas. We must also allow for the inadvertent and deliberate integration of mythic elements incorporated through the immersion into Roman culture (and drift variance during dissemination by way of conquored conversion), as well as editorialization conducted in the formalization and reinterpretation of Christian dogma by the Catholic Church.
Something to think about.
Thank you for the inquiry. What you are proposing about the "historical Jesus" has been around since the beginning. It's called "euhemerism" or "evemerism." No need for me to think about it, since it's one of the two perspectives most popular. The third and most truthful--in my opinion--is the mythicists'.
Lockhart's book is not particularly good (oddly enough, I was re-reading it when you wrote). Laurence Gardner's book is full of bizarre and ridiculous speculation, with few citations of sources. Where he does cite, he is merely repeating rumors and legends created by the elite in order to "prove" they are descended from Jesus.

…I am writing a book (in Spanish) about the myths of Christianism. I consider your writings "The Origins of Christianity and the Quest for the Historical Jesus Christ" a masterpiece and a valuable source in my book. I am asking for your permission to use certain pieces of your article in my book, as another source of backing of information and to help support my book. Whichever pieces or parts of yours used in my book will be credited to you and noted of its origin. I really appreciate your help in this matter.

Subject: Origins of Christianity
I have never seen such a poor attempt to hide the truth of the historical Jesus. For the record, Jesus' last name was not Christ. Your supposed evidence is seriously lacking, as there are as many theologians to contradict your points as there are atheists and agnostics to try to support them.
What's most amazing is you have attempted to discredit each legitimate source of evidence to the existence of Christ. While, from a strategy perspective, that is brilliant, from a truth perspective it is nothing short of evil.
You may choose to reject the Christ of the Bible, but He will not reject you. If you repent of your worship of Satan - the great deceiver – and turn to Jesus - the Way, the Truth, and the Life - you will be saved. Otherwise, you will spend eternity in hell, with all the time in the world to reflect on your serious mistake.
From the very beginning of time, Satan has been trying to deceive God's people. He knows his ultimate destination and wants to take as many with him as possible.
Josephus did indeed speak clearly of the reality of a historical man named Jesus. He mentioned Jesus, by name, and also makes reference to James, one of Jesus' brothers.
Isn't it amazing that dates are referred to as B.C. or A.D., with both terms clearly referring to periods before the birth of Christ and after. It would appear that, there is sufficient evidence in this example alone, to prove the historical existence of Jesus.
I can't believe the number of people who listen to your rhetoric and actually consider it. Fortunately, I know the truth and can spot a lie. I apologize if you put forth inaccurate material by accident. But, if you put forth this garbage with no real evidence to support it, you are indeed a liar, and will one day answer to the Jesus you so vehemently deny.

Subject: Hi, Acharya....
Hi, Acharya, found your site by "chance" ... great....
… I see your interest in entheogens -- my son is an ethno-botanist, ethno-pharmocologist and made me aware of the place the entheogens have played in the development of religions, although I maintain that Knowingness can be truly obtained with humility and a search deep down within... that the 'Creator' has imbued us naturally with all means necessary for the completion of the search.
There is a crying need for spiritual awakening to Truth in the world today as there has been in all times, the old myths die hard, and as people seek, they fall back into the traps of the old myths, merely trading one for the other, not realizing that we are the story we tell ourselves... it will be a while yet, but the curve is exponential and is accelerating....
I got a kick out of your pissed off statement ... that has been one of mine for a long time... appears on my page Barefoot's Survival pages ... barefootsworld.net/bfthpage.html and barefootsworld.net/survive2.html
Pissed offedness can be read into a passage from probably the most primitive of the Jesus Gospels -- the Gospel of Thomas -- 2) Jesus said, "Let him who seeks continue seeking until he finds. When he finds, he will become troubled. When he becomes troubled, he will be astonished, and he will rule over the All."
GOD is not religion!
Sorry about that!
GOD is GOD,
the CREATOR of ALL
and it is about time we let GOD be GOD
and know that we ALL are THE ONLY BEGOTTEN SON OF GOD!!!
EACH AND EVERY ONE OF US!!!

To: Acharya S
hey, this is coming from a christian young person, dont stop reading yet please. first off, could you please include bible contradictions that arent taken out of context, that would be appreciated. secondly, im open minded too, but it seems like you arent, how can you claim to be open minded when all you are doing is looking for flaws in religions? i challenge you to do the same in studying science, see how they date things, stuff like that.obviously we all have some preconcieved notions when we study something, but you just seem like you want to find something. and if you have read the whole entire bible, how could you think let out of context contradictions on the website. some of them dont even quote the bible right. and you said that the bible is full of genocide, etc, stuff like that, but is it glorifying it? is it calling it sin? i really would like to know why you decided to include that in your description of the bible when it is always condeming such acts. anyway, i got to this site bc an atheist friend told me of you, and ill will be reading your book, the christ conspiracy i think?, very soon and will email you again with my thoughts, whether you like them or not. i just hope that it isnt filled with out of context contradictions as the website is.thanks for listening if you did, if you didnt your goin to hell! hahhaha jk just dont think all believers are like that. and be a little open minded to religion.
As WC Fields would say, children should be seen and not heard. Obviously, you haven't read the Old Testament at all, yet you think you are being very clever. (My, how believers are conceited!) The genocide is constantly ordained, signed, sealed and delivered by or in the name of God.

Subject: Love your site!
To: Acharya S
I had to write you and tell you how much I like your refreshing website!
I am also on the Free Thought and Rationalists' web-rings, and that's how I came across your site. It seems we have arrived at similar conclusions regarding the origins of Christianity -- not surprising since we have been reading many of the same books.
I was raised a Catholic, and converted to being a Jehovah's Witness when I was 17 years old. It took me a couple of years to read me way out of that mess. Once I'd left them it didn't take me too long to become an atheist (especially after reading Frazer's The Golden Bough).
Now, it's 25 years later, and like you, I am trying to enlighten people to the fact that Christianity is based on a huge mistake. My site features a novel I wrote about the Jehovah's Witnesses, and a commentary on the Bible (which I'm still writing). I had read the Bible before from cover-to-cover when I was 17, but I couldn't read it objectively back then. Now as I am re-reading it -- even though I already knew it was a crock -- I am amazed at just how bad it really is!
I wanted to thank you for your site and for the work you have done. I plan to buy your book ASAP.
If you find the time, I would love to have you visit my site and let me know what you think of it. It looks like we also share a commitment to the environment, women's rights, and animal rights!…
Unfortunately, my old WYSIWYG trashed all the rest of June's messages. Yeah, yeah, always back up.
